Keeper Of The Ashes.. Worth The Watch?

Rating: 5.4 out of 10 (IMDb), 64% (Rotten Tomatoes)

Style: Documentary

Stars: Kristin Chenoworth, Sheri Farmer, Bettye Milner (Among Others)

Do want to say that it talks about sexual assault and murder. If those are things that trigger you in whatever way then please do not watch this show. I am not responsible if you watch after reading this (and still chose to watch it) and it puts you in a bad mental place.

As someone who enjoys true crime and watching docuseries, I recently saw a show that rocked the state of Oklahoma in the 1970s. They were the Girl Scout Murders. And this is something that is covered on Hulu in a recent show called Keeper Of The Ashes. It covers the case as it takes you back to the summer of 1977 when 3 girls ranged 8 to 10 were murdered on the first night of camp.

I was not alive in the 1970s, but I do enjoy a good case. I think I enjoy watching mysteries more than I like reading them. This is a case that I can say intrigued me. I do think that they can probably solve the case now if they wanted to if they still have some of the original evidence from that unfaithful night that took those 3 kids away.

Now I am not 100% sure if this needed Kristin Chenoworth because I think that people would still talk about this case and still would have watched if she wasn't in this 4 part docuseries. But if Hulu felt that they needed a big name to get ratings then it might be safe to say that they achieved just that. I do enjoy watching shows where they don't have big names in the town where a said crime happened. Where you have the people that were there (in this case the camp counselors) and the police and whoever else was involved with it. But did this show need Kristin? The person who was supposed to be there and wasn't because she was sick during the time frame of when the murders happened? No. I think the show would have most likely brought viewers if they didn't have Kristin. I don't expect Troy Aikman to be in a docuseries about a crime that happened in Henryetta during his time there. Or Blake Shelton to be in a docuseries about a crime that happened in Ada. Will both these names bring viewers? Sure but those of us who just want to know what happened don't need those celeb names to be in the show. Especially if THEY WERE NOT THERE because of reasons X, Y, and Z.

Because Kristin was not there, I don't think she should have been in the show. I think the show would have been just fine with the people who were there. Like the camp counselors. Who may not have known what had fully happened but were still there when the crime occurred and could know something that could help. Like one stated that they heard a strange noise. That might have helped. As of right now, it hasn't helped figure out who did it but it's still something that someone heard about who was there when the murders happened.

Now Do I Think The Show Is Worth A Watch?

Yes. Well more like depends. If you think that you can get past the whole Kristin thing and probably the only reason why she is in it is that Hulu probably wanted a big name from someone who was there. Then sure.

I do think Kristin does take away from the show in this just because she had no business being in the show. Just because SHE WAS NOT THERE. Even though she claims she was supposed to be.

I did enjoy the show and did bring light to a case that was probably often forgotten about if a said case is out of mind. (Out of sight out of mind right). I think some people are still trying to figure out who did it and bring closure to the families who need it. I did have my problems with it (mainly the whole celeb thing) but overall did enjoy it.

I will not be giving a rating for this show just because I feel like a docuseries about the lives that were lost does not deserve one. I want this to focus on the lives lost and those who are still suffering today because of what was lost on that unfaithful night. If you want to watch it you are more than welcome to. And if not, then I completely understand.
