Summary:
This follows the events after the first movie. Tessa has a job at Vance Publishing where her task is to read manuscripts and see which ones she likes and which ones she doesn't.
Hardin seems to be homeless at the beginning of the movie since when it is first cut to him, he just wakes up from sleeping in a car. He wants to get Tessa back after she found out that she was used for a bet towards the end of the last movie.
Tessa seems to be liking the new job that she meets Trevor at. Who seems to be the other love interest that seems to like Tessa but doesn't seem to like Hardin all that much? And tries to warn Tessa how toxic Hardin can be. Just like her mom and first friend at college tried to warn her in the last movie to keep him at arm's length. Which she doesn't do.
Tessa finds out that her father wants to talk to her when she returns home from her ex-boyfriend. She freaks out and wants to know more about exactly why her dad wants to see her but of course, her mom just has to throw Hardin back in her face. This is probably why she goes running back to Hardin after the fight with her mom.
Hardin's mom does seem to like Tessa and how Tessa seems to ground Hardin even though he seems to have his problems. And oh boy does Hardin have his problems. They do seem to show up when the couple seems to be having problems. Like when Tessa is thinking about going to Seattle for a promotion at work but hasn’t made a decision yet.
At the going away party, it does seem like they do get back together. Because it seems like it's always been the other. And they do seem to be having tunnel vision. How much is the other willing to take before one official says that they are done?
Thoughts:
I am going to be honest. I think how much sex that happened in the first hour of this movie between Hardin and Tessa takes away from the plot of the movie (which I don't think that there is a plot). Like they were separated and it seemed like Tessa was moving on then after a few rounds, she’s back with Hardin like nothing had happened.
I did like the relationship that seemed to be there between Tessa and Trevor. I think that there could have been something there if Tessa wasn't so hung up on the fact that Hardin exists. I think that they could have made an amazing couple who can give each other what the other needs while helping the other grow.
The relationship with Hardin again seems toxic in this movie. But compared to the book, that I have not read, I think that the scriptwriters did a good job showing in this movie that Hardin and Tessa are toxic to each other without going as far as the book goes in showing how toxic Hardin and Tessa for the other. Because even though they love each other there are only so much sex and good moments that one can take before the bad outweighs the good. And it continues to be this toxic cycle that neither one of them can get out of. Because they “love each other” they will continue to go back to each other.
