Welcome to the first of many TV Thursday. Today I am going to start these off with some of my comfort TV Shows. These are up there if I had to pick a few of my favorite all time television shows.
Teen Wolf
Genre: (Dark) Comedy, (Teen) Drama, Sci-fi, Fantasy, Thriller, Romance
Where To Watch: Hulu, Paramount Plus
This follows a group of teenagers as they try and figure out the new world that they somehow find themselves in. It starts in the first episode when we meet the two best friends of Stiles and Scott going to find half of a dead body that just so happens to be buried in the woods. From there they figure out what Scott is and how he can control it.
People that I thought would be with me forever are the ones that I lost. People that I thought I could never trust ended up saving my life, more than once. (Scott)
Throughout the show, Scott (and friends) have to battle the supernatural that comes knocking at the door of Beacon Hills. But along the way, they know how to deal with what comes along their way. Weather its Scotts break up with Allison, Malia finding out her biological father is Peter Hale, and how parents like Scotts mom Melissa deal with their children being in the supernatural world as teenagers.
Love, Victor
Genre: (Teen) Drama, Comedy
Where To Watch: Hulu
I was not planning on watching Love, Victor when it first came out. But when I joined the Disney bundle (the one that has Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+) it was the first show I watched. I couldn’t stop watching it because I found myself falling in love with this show.
Your are having what they call MOFO (Isabel)
It follows Victor who is coming to terms with the fact that he is gay. He finds himself opening up to Simon (from Love, Simon) as he got advice from not only Simon but all of his roommates about how to handle certain situations. Victor finds himself telling his family who he is which causes the main stain between him and his mom. Because even though his father struggles with the fact that Victor is gay, he seems to be the more accepting parent out of the two but is still willing to talk to Victor and is learning how to be there for Victor in a way. But his mom does start trying in season 2 after not wanting to address the elephant in the room.
Fuller House
Genre: American Sitcom, Comedy
Where To Watch: Netflix US
As someone who enjoyed the original series (AKA full house), I knew that I had to watch the spin-off. It was filled with comfort characters like DJ, Kimmy and Stephanie while introducing new characters like Jackson, Max and Fiona.
It’s always open. (Multiple characters)
This show definitely brought the laughs in a very short amount of time. The show was extremely bingable and honestly could watch the entire show in a weekend if you really wanted to. It still covered the same hard hitting topics for the adults who grew up with the adults (like with Kimmy being a surrogate for Stephanie) while still covering topics that could be relatable for the teens who didnt grow up with the original show (like how to deal with the pressure of social media).
I think that is one thing that this show did excellent at. Showing some of the struggles that someone in their 20s/30s/40s struggle with while still finding ways to show that there are struggles that children and teens also struggle with. Even if its not on the same level of struggle. Because what is a struggle for a 26 year old might not be a big deal to someone who is 36 or someone who is 16. Because both are facing big struggles of their own where they feel like their world is falling apart.
Big Time Rush
Genre: Comedy, American Sitcom, Mockumentary, Musical, Children's
Where To Watch: Netflix US
I have a very good reason for this. I was part of that “tween” demographic when this show first aired back in 2009. I was probably more on the higher end of that demographic that Nick was looking for when they came up with this show. Considering I was in 8th grade (maybe 9th) when the show came out. But boy bands (or all-boy pop singing groups) were all the rage when back in 2009. With bands like Big Time Rush, One Direction, The Wanted, and 5 seconds of summer.
Opportunities like this come once in a lifetime, and when they do you gotta grab it and turn that thing big time! (Kendall)
This follows 4 guys from Minnesota who give or take are obsessed with hockey. With only Kendall is the only one who wants to play pro in the NHL. So when Gustavo shows up in Minnesota looking for “his next big thing”, all the members of the group audition with only Kendall getting Gustavos attention. The only way Gustavo gets Kendall is if Carlos, James, and Logan come too and they create a boy band. The group (along with Kendall's mom and sister) move to Palm Springs which may not be the best place at first but they find a way to make it their own. With them now in LA, they can focus on becoming not only high school graduates, but becoming Gustavo's “next big thing”.
