If you don't live in the United States you might not know what is going on. Or depending on who you are following on social media you might. But as you can see by the title I am going to be talking about Johnny Depp and Amber Heard.
What Is Going On?
If you don't know, Johnny Depp and Amber Heard are in court for a defamation case. Johnny Depp and Amber Heard were married briefly for 15 months (from roughly late 2014/early 2015 to late May 2016 when Heard filed for divorce). You can read the timeline of their relationship here if you want to know what has went down the last 10 plus years since their first meeting in 2009.
Heard went on to claim that Depp was abusive during their time together. Which Depp denies claiming that it was Heard who was abusive during their time together and that she isn't the victim that she is claiming to be. But because of Heards accusations against Depp, it caused Depp to lose work, like working on the third installment of the Fantastic Beast franchise. So it’s safe to say at the very least this relationship was toxic.
My Opinions On The Case:
As an outsider looking in, there was definitely more going on than what is currently being told. But the more that comes out it seems very much to paint Heard as the abuser instead of a victim of domestic violence. From things like body language in this case it seems like Heard is trying to gain sympathy by putting what others have called a performance of a lifetime while on the stand (she's also been seen with a stone-cold expression when she wasn't on the stand) where Johnny has been very consistent when it comes to his body language. *I am not a professional but there are people who know who what to look for where as I don’t.*
I am trying not to pick sides but at this point, it seems like Johnny’s story was very consistent of him being the victim when he got to talk and where Amber has to act like she was some sort of victim. Again, I am not a professional but based on how both of them are acting it can be proven (at least in my opinion) on who is telling the truth and who is lying.
Will I Be Talking About Their Movies?
At some point yes. I do want to wait until the trial is over and we have a verdict from the jury before posting reviews about their movies. I think that it might be best to wait just because it seems like everyone is talking about it and I don’t want to be posting reviews over movies like Pirates Of The Caribbean and Aquaman. If I do watch their movies during trial, they will sit in my drafts till trial is over.
Right now, I don’t want to bring to much attention to an already traumatic experience in which they are reliving the toxic nature of the relationship. I do think that this case can be extremely triggering for those who have been in a toxic abusive relationships. At the end of the day, men can be victims of domestic violence just as much as women, non-binary, and trans people can. Just because the numbers are statistically higher for women doesn’t mean that there aren’t others who identify differently who have also been victims of DV.
