As an American, I will be the first to admit, that I enjoy reality television. I think I might not enjoy reality television as much if I didn't live in a country that thrived on shows like Keeping Up With The Kardashians. So today I am going to bring you some reality shows that I know I enjoy in a country that thrives on us knowing everything about everyone.
Catfish: The TV Show
Where to watch: Hulu (US)
I am slowly getting threw Catfish the television show. When I need something to watch when I am eating or doing something else like cleaning. I think that this show is perfect just when you just want to watch one episode and go on with your day without feeling like you have to binge the whole season in one or two days.
Each episode follows a new couple as Nev and Co-host (where I am in the series I Max) as they try to see if the person who is emailing them is telling the truth or not. If you have watched enough catfish you know that it doesn’t always work out.
I think that this does give some good tips on what might be red flags (ie: not wanting to meet, not doing a video chat, always coming up with excuses) for those of us who do online dating.
Miz And Mrs
Where to watch: Peacock (US), USA Network (both on live tv and the app in the US)
As a wrestling fan as well, I do enjoy a reality show based on some of my favorite wrestlers. Insert Miz And Maryse.
The 30-minute filled of laughs makes it to where it feels like you cant stop laughing. I have had days where the show has aired and laughing (and smiling) hurt. Because that is how funny this show is.
I think what I like the most is how relatable The Miz is when he isnt in his character that you see on wrestling TV. And if you watched the season of DWTS that he was on (think it was season 30) then you will see that he can be quite relatable.
I love how this reality show gives you just enough to where you want to come back and want more. And where you wish it was an hour instead of just 30 minutes.
Total Divas
Where to watch: Peacock (US)
Again, I am a wrestling fan and when I saw that there was going to be a show about the women I knew I had to watch. As someone who connects more to womens wrestling than I do with mens wrestling, I wanted to watch. Not just because some of my favorite womens wrestlers were going to be on it (like the Bella Twins).
I think that what really drew me in was the fact that I enjoyed womens wrestling and gave me a chance to find more of myself threw these characters that I saw on TV every week. Especially in world where society expects those of us who are born female to be thin, be straight and sometimes not care about what we want and make others happy.
It was nice to see people who were more on the bigger side like Nia Jax. Because as a bigger person myself, it was nice to see someone was bigger and getting the oppunities to show bigger people that they can succeed in places that are designed for skinny people to succeed. It was nice to see people like Sonya whos openly lesbian and can succeed in a place that is designed for straight people to succeed. Did it take some time for that to happen yes. But it was nice for that repersentation to be on a show where it has mainly at the time white, skinny, straight people were the mold of what could succeed and what couldnt succeed.
*And yes, I know that there have been POC who have succeeded, people on the bigger side who have succeeded, those of different religions who have succeeded, people of different sexualities who have succeeded. But as an outsider looking in, it really seems like WWE as a whole to only want white, skinny, straight people to succeed.*
Big Brother (US)
Where To Watch: Paramount Plus
Even though I dont like drama. I know that there are people who thrive on it. But that is not me. I enjoy watching it in the form of reality telvision. Every summer for like 3 months.
I do enjoy Big Brother and think it gives an outlet for those of us who dont like to be involved in drama ourselves to be involved in the drama. And think that is where my love for watching dramas really came from. Watching reality televison. More specificlly Big Brother in the states. Because sometimes it does get alitte chaotic. And thats always good for everyone. Except those who are living it.
I do enjoy some of the aspects of the show. And the drama is definatly at the top of the list. I can't wait for the next season to start here soon and maybe there will be more drama this time around. I do like a good backstab too and if there is alittle romcance then so be it. I am okay with all of it.
